Yesterday my 22 year old bird, Crackers soul flew from her body as she entered the spirit world. This song is about how we frame our experiences. I am full of grief but I choose to see this transition as beautiful even though it stings to loose such a sweet longtime friend. (I adopted her when I was only 8 years old).
This piece was originally written to celebrate the life of Primary ARTner, Brynn Ronning. She resides in Buena Vista and her work ranges from Glass, to Drawing, to Ginger and Honey Tea. In 2007 she did a "window drawing" everyday for a year while I wrote a song everyday for the same year. I admire how her gaze of life has a way of transforming the way of seeing life.
A window opening inside my chest
the glass is foggy and bird's beaks are pressed
when the panes swing open and meet the sky
the feathers are rustled and wings stretched out to fly
Once locked in my shoulder blades
like ocean waves
all seem to dissipate in a blink of an eye
Art in chards along the stretch of a wavy beach
in a rear view mirror
in ginger lemon and honey tea
in a chance encounter the window a soul
ignite connect collect
this gypsy has more people and places to know
a simple pane of glass
at once becomes a canvas
a mirror or a rubble picture frame
illuminate and transform your gaze
